Passageway: Fire Station 14 aims to connect South Oakland's residential community with the Zulema parklet in two ways: serving as essential infrastructure and connecting the public to the currently unused park.

Two concrete volumes, the apparatus bay and flexible public program space, anchor the building and uplift the firefighters' residential space on the second floor, a light wooden volume. Together, these three elements frame a natural passageway, guiding visitors with a central light well that cuts through the residential floor and providing a seamless transition between residential to landscape.
